High population density in arracacha (Arracacia xanthorrhiza Bancroft) increase radiation interception, yield, and profitability

Introduction. Arracacha (Arracacia xanthorrhiza Bancroft) a promising crop due to its nutritional and gastronomic relevance. Population density is an agronomic practice that increases water radiation use efficiencies, maximizes the yield, profitability. However, selection of optimal population based on physiological, agronomic, economic criteria for arracacha has not been studied. Objective. To describe effect different densities physiology, profitability arracacha. Materials methods. The experiment was conducted in Cajamarca, Colombia 2019. There, soil potential, relative chlorophyll content, photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, efficiency, leaf temperature depression, photosynthetic reflectance index, area fraction light interception, extinction coefficient, cracking were evaluated. Results. results showed high did generate deficit because there no significant differences index. Furthermore, deficiencies evidenced content (<32 SPAD) higher at critical level. Due this, limitations observed gas exchange processes. 25,000 30,000 plants ha-1 interception increase index; this allowed obtain yield these densities. Conclusion. maximum (41.96 t ha-1) (US$ 15,333.06 reached with 22,222 ha-1.
